[Orekit Developers] SOCIS 2012

Hi all,

As some of you may already know, ESA organizes a Summer Of Code In Space (SOCIS). The web site for the event is here: <http://sophia.estec.esa.int/socis2012/>.

Last year, Orekit was selected as one of the open-source projects to mentor a student. Our student did a great job and developed an Android application based on Orekit. This application is available in the Orekit forge. The binary package is here: <https://www.orekit.org/forge/projects/socis-2011/files>, and the source code is here: <https://www.orekit.org/forge/projects/socis-2011/repository>.

This year, we also proposed several subjects for SOCIS. The subjects alreay submitted are on the wiki: <https://www.orekit.org/forge/projects/orekit/wiki/SOCIS>.

If someone is interested in proposing additional subjects and mentoring a student, please tell us so. Please note that if you want to propose a subject, you should also take care of the mentoring for the student. This is not a huge task and mainly involves providing help for getting started with Orekit, answering questions by mail, monitoring progress and providing a short final evaluation of the student to ESA. Students work from their home and ESA take care of funding the student work, so mentors only need to provide some time.

best regards,
Luc
